Beyond just visceral two films roughly musical icons, last years Bohemian Rhapsody and the recently released Rocketman ration something else in common: director Dexter Fletcher. Fletcher finished the former film roughly Queen and Freddie Mercury after Bryan Singers firing and directed the latter film roughly Elton John from the start. Because of this connection, Rocketman could have contained a wild Bohemian Rhapsody crossover, as Dexter Fletcher explained:
There was an idea I had one point, where Eltons in a restaurant later his mother. I thought John Reid and Freddie could be at unorthodox table and they answer at each other! That would have been amazing, [but] it didnt come to pass. It wouldve been a tiny too knowing. Im not looking to set out to create a cinematic universe!
Dexter Fletcher is right in what he told gay Star News, it would have been incredible to look Rami Maleks Freddie Mercury interacting later Taron Egertons Elton John, even if it were only something as small as a answer amongst the two. It's a neat idea that would have been a good tiny answer to Bohemian Rhapsody; an Easter egg that I imagine many fans would have freaked out roughly if it were hidden as a admiration in Rocketman.
Such a crossover wouldnt have been annoyed either and actually would have made some sense. Thats because of the feel of John Reid, who provides the join amongst Queen and Elton John because he was the music supervisor for the former and the music supervisor and lover of the latter. Ironically, he was played by Game of Thrones vets in both movies, Aidan Gillen in Bohemian Rhapsody and Richard enrage in Rocketman.
Therefore this scene wouldnt have been out of the realm of possibility historically, and you can comprehend Dexter Fletchers temptation to perform later Oscar winner Rami Malek anew for a fun crossover later this. Yet, as the director said, this cameo did not come to pass. But it is not that Rami Malek didnt desire to or because of some sort of scheduling conflict.
Dexter Fletcher never asked Rami Malek because he ultimately chose not to put in such a cameo in the film, the defense visceral that as he said, it would be too knowing. even though seeing Rami Maleks Freddie in Rocketman would have been a hugely crowd-pleasing moment, Dexter Fletchers reasoning makes sense. Less a winking reference, this cameo may have come off a bit more hammer greater than the head.
Its the kind of business that would have taken you out of the movie for something that in the end was unnecessary. And having seen Rocketman, the scene Dexter Fletcher mentioned and later the cameo would have happened, where Elton is having dinner later his mother, is more earsplitting in nature. A Rami Malek cameo as Freddie Mercury in that moment may have been tonally jarring later the get off of the scene.
Still, it would have been neat to look Freddie Mercury pop stirring at some lessening in Rocketman. Dexter Fletcher said he wasnt exasperating to create a cinematic universe, but it is kind of a fun idea. If John Reid werent played by oscillate actors in the two films, he could have acted as the Nick Fury to the musical Avengers. maybe if Bohemian Rhapsody someway gets a sequel, Taron Egerton can perform up.
Rocketman is now playing in theaters. Check out our 2019 release Schedule to prep for all of the biggest films headed your exaggeration this summer.

The one sorta silver lining this week is not a wide release, or even a new release, but instead the return of the Peter Jackson documentary They Shall Not Grow Old.The film - which features colorized and transformed World War I footage - got a very small but acclaimed release back in December, and the buzz and chatter that it generated resulted in a second wider release this past weekend.
